About
Mercedes Lewis creates abstract works using techniques of sculpting paint, masking, layering, color and mixed media to express her emotions behind the issues that African Americans are facing in modern day society. Her art explores concepts surrounding systematic oppression, slavery, racism, sexuality, identity, and dehumanization. She uses color as a form of therapy and creates art to express her emotions behind the African American experience.
She currently is the Creative Director & Artist at Geminichi LLC. She has had the opportunity to use her creative talents in painting, art instructor, graphic design and animation. She has international publications in London & Germany. Her most recent project is the “I Don’t See Color Series” is a conceptual series inspired by the systematic oppression of Black History & culture. Her piece FREEDOM from this collection was donated and is in the permanent collection at The African American Museum of Art in Dallas, TX.
