This piece was inspired by Adinkra cloths from traditional Asante culture in Ghana. These cloths were used for funerary and religious purposes. They used color and symbolism to tell a story about someone’s life. This piece represents the death of African American people in order to reach Freedom in a society influenced by Systematic Oppression. This piece contains symbolism of West African culture that represent the concept of FREEDOM of African American people.

About the Project:
The Banality of Evil in our Daily Lives art competition is an open call for artists to communicate what they see as the banality of evil in our daily lives. It poses a challenge to communicate that which has never been communicated before and create a platform for groundbreaking ideas to be brought into our collectivity.
Artists the world over are invited to submit work that will use art as the language to communicate their hopes in creating a new vision for the world.
The competition aims to provide inspiration and solutions that address the most important crisis that faces humanity today: the loss of our humanity.
The Banality of Evil in our Daily Lives is a unique art competition that will have a strong emphasis on public engagement. The public will be invited to moderate the selection of the first 40 art works by liking and sharing the messages presented on the BOE in our Daily Lives social media platforms.

BODY POLITiĆ

Shades Noir undertakes practice based social justice within the creative sector context and partnership with international educational and cultural institutions, as well as creative practitioners and a broad spectrum of organizations. Shades Noir is a publication based from University of Arts London (UAL). UAL is ranked 2nd in the world for Art and Design in 2019.

I interviewed with Shades Noir on What now does the 'black' body politic look like, and how has this idea of body politics evolved in the present day?

below on pages 104-105 or CLICK HERE.

The definition of politić is an allegorical term used to characterise the people of a nation, state, or society considered collectively as an organised group of citizens. Politić therefore becomes a metaphor that likens a nation state to a mental corporeal, which has undoubtedly had serious historical repercussions throughout colonial history, especially in its applicability to the conditions of slavery.
